“Why Did You Have Me?”

Most people have children without stopping to ask,

If parenting is truly their calling or their task.

Most reasons they give won’t hold up in the light,

So let's look at them closely and see if they're right.

"The people around me expect me to breed,"

So you sacrifice your life to live by their creed.

Two decades of duty dictated by those others,

Huge costs for you and kids so others get their druthers?

"I want to feel needed," you say without vile,

But what kind of burden does that place on your child?

They must make you feel needed or they’ll feel your lack,

Is a weight that no young one should bear, it’s a fact!
 

"My children will care for me when I am old and frail,"

Another child’s burden and you’ll create your own travail.

Invest what you'd spend on kids and you'll comfortably find,

You could hire someone better, and fire them if not aligned.
