How to be an effective altruist
An effective altruist

An effective altruist would be someone who, in their concern for the well-being of others, was able to make large, long-lasting differences in the lives of more people.

Most altruists are not very effective at it because they believe altruism involves self-sacrifice

-
To be a more effective altruist you need to become quite selfish for both the short-term and long-term. Only by taking good care of yourself are you going to be able to sustainably contribute to others.
-
To be a more effective altruist you need to maintain good boundaries with others. Otherwise, you will not have the best possible relationships with them. You need to be good at saying "no" and making requests.
-
To be a more effective altruist you need to encourage sustainable mutually selfish relationships with everyone. Otherwise, you are encouraging or building relationships and systems that are not sustainable.

Consistent, long-term selfishness (having both high Now-Next Integrity and Oneself-Others Integrity) is the key to being the best altruist and contributor to others.
