The 2AM Club

I didn't always get up at 2:00 a.m.

I don't recommend it to you, unless it fits.

Regardless of what fits of might fit best for you, let me tell you how I came to belong to The 2AM Club (you may have heard for The 5AM Club which Robin Sharma popularized). I don't think The 2AM Club has a lot of members yet (I'm the only one I know about).

Noticing my energy rhythms

I've always been a morning person. Once I'm out of bed, short of being hours short on my sleep, it's barely seconds before I'm wide awake and raring to go.

As part of the same cycle, my get up and go has gone down and went by late afternoon and into the evening. Sometimes in the past I might have struggled to stay awake until the witching hour, but I couldn't get myself to do anything more taxing than watching TV, until even that was not enough to keep me awake.

Four benefits to my membership in The 2AM Club

  1. My high-energy mornings are the happiest time of day for me, with my Now and Next seamlessly cooperating on getting done all the things I like to do in the morning.

  2. Starting at 2:00 a.m., I extend my morning time and am able to leisurely accomplish more in my day...I like that!

  3. Although I enjoy social time, my solitude time is nurturing and special to me...early morning time is the best solitude time for me.

  4. Although my Now likes downtime later in the day, if I'm getting to bed much later than 7:00 p.m., it's usually too much downtime, even for Dwight-Now.

One cost to my membership in The 2AM Club

Sometimes I'm not able to take advantage of events or visiting with friends if it has to occur after 6:00 p.m.

Is there a club that fits you?

If you're a night owl, it might be The 11AM Club.

In general, the world is not well organized to accommodate night owls. If you work the swing shift or work for yourself, it may be easy to adopt.

Personal note: I'm finishing up this link at 4:11 a.m. in the morning here in Medellin, Colombia!
