Daily Dozen: a Recipe for Life
For ninety-nine years and beyond, I aspire,
To live with vitality, fueled by fire.
The choices I make, the food on my plate,
Shape the health of my body, the path of my fate.

Beans are a staple, three servings a day,
They strengthen my heart and keep illness at bay.
With lentils and hummus, my meals are complete,
They’re filling and wholesome, a savory treat.
​
One serving of berries, so vibrant and bright,
Packed with antioxidants, fueling my fight.
Other fruits join the feast, sweet apples and pears,
A trio of servings, their goodness compares.
​
A cruciferous crunch, from broccoli’s crown,
Or horseradish spice, greens deeply renown.
Two servings of leafy, raw greens in my bowl,
Their nutrient bounty is food for the soul.
​
For other vegetables, carrots or squash,
Two servings each day, my health to emboss.
And don’t forget flaxseed, a tablespoon ground,
Its omega-rich power in smoothies is found.
​
Nuts and seeds, just a quarter cup shared,
Or nut butter spread—health is declared.
Add herbs like turmeric, just a pinch will suffice,
Their healing potential is truly precise.

Three servings of grains, whole and refined,
From bread to hot cereal, sustenance I find.
With sixty ounces of beverages, water or tea,
Hydration supports the best version of me.
​
Daily exercise, ninety minutes or more,
Keeps me agile and strong, my spirit to soar.
Vigorous steps or moderate strides,
Movement ensures my health abides.
​
And lastly, B12, a crucial small dose,
Supports my vitality as age grandly grows.
With these as my guide, I thrive and I thrive,
The Daily Dozen ensures I’m alive.
​
For ninety-nine years and perhaps even more,
This plan is my compass, my health’s very core.
I’ll eat with intention, I’ll savor each bite,
Living each moment with joy and delight.
