Empathy shines like a narrow light,
It blinds our vision, distorts what is right.
We weep for one face, ignore the crowd’s cries,
A sugar-sweet drink that surely belies.

Less empathy, less blindness, that’s the refrain,
Compassion with reason will ease the pain.
Less empathy, less blindness, clear and true,
With calm and care, there’s more we can do.

It spotlights a child, but not the whole town,
It pulls us to war, brings millions down.
Statistics are silent, abstractions ignored,
Reason can balance what hearts won’t afford.

Doctors bring solace when steady, not torn,
When suffering they witness, they don’t adorn.
Competence, honesty, dignity stand,
Far stronger than empathy’s trembling hand.

Less empathy, less blindness, that’s the refrain,
Compassion with reason will ease the pain.
Less empathy, less blindness, clear and true,
With calm and care, there’s more we can do.

Evil’s not born from lack of deep feeling,
But from righteousness born of empathy reeling.
Those who believe they are doing so good,
Commit all the cruelties history’s withstood.

So bless us with wisdom, self-control’s might,
With rational compassion to guide to what’s right.
With kindness for all when the mind takes the lead,
Not empathy’s burden, but clarity’s creed.

Less empathy, less blindness, that’s the refrain,
Compassion with reason will ease the pain.
Less empathy, less blindness, clear and true,
With calm and care, there’s more we can do.
