I'm not much for censorship, even for kids, but...

If we going to be careful about what sort of messages our kids receive, the Christmas jingle below should be on the jingle-burning list.

Let's just look at the toxic messages this jingle is indoctrinating our innocent children with.

(somebody's about to get you)

You better not cry

(stuff any feelings of sadness or upset)

Better not pout

(complaining is a "no no")

I'm telling you why
Santa Claus is coming to town
He's making a list
And checking it twice;

(he's tallying up your score of how "bad" you've been)

Gonna find out Who's naughty and nice

(naughty = having too much fun and being disobedient

nice = obeying and focusing on looking good to others)

Santa Claus is coming to town
He sees you when you're sleeping
He knows when you're awake
(there is no escaping those righteous, all-seeing eyes)

He knows if you've been bad or good

(bad = selfish, good = putting others first)

So be good for goodness sake!

(don't be good because it's good for you, do it because it's expected)

O! You better watch out!
You better not cry
Better not pout
