I Leave The Choice To You — Both Songs Stole My Heart

Smokey’s my cat—well, I’m her human—
A queen of calm, no belief in omens.
She rules the room with silent grace,
Doing nothing, just holding the space.

She’s not asleep, she’s not alert,
Not chasing dreams nor trying to flirt.
She has no plan, she does not try—
She just exists, and so do I.

Doing nothing, let it be,
No task, no thought, no victory.
Just like my Smokey in the sun,
Undoing all that doing’s done.

It’s not a nap, it’s not a rest,
It’s not a mantra or a quest.
No mindful breath, no mental game—
No effort and she has no aim.

You can’t intend to not intend,
The mind will twitch, the thoughts ascend.
But now and then, if you allow,
You’ll find yourself in only now.

Doing nothing, let it be,
No task, no thought, no victory.
Just like my Smokey in the sun,
Undoing all that doing’s done.

So sit, perhaps with eyelids closed,
Perhaps your mind will find repose.
If “shoulds” and “what ifs” start to creep,
Remind yourself you need not reap.

I watch her stretch, and flick her tail—
She’s always knows that she’ll prevail.
No efforts made, no needs to strive,
She’s there so whole and so alive.

Doing nothing, let it be,
No task, no thought, no victory.
Just like my Smokey in the sun,
Undoing all that doing’s done.
