“Sovereign Am I”

“You are sovereign,” it’s the truth in every day,

The world we built denied that, we all went astray.

Yet the truth of who you are declares it clearly by its name,

“You are sovereign,” alive forever inside freedom's flame.

“I am sovereign” in all of life’s domain,

Not all-knowing, not exempt from sometimes pain.

I’m the author of the stories of my life,

Not blinding myself, always open to more light.

“I am sovereign, I am sovereign,”

Not a title, not a prize hard won.

Before those distant voices had staked their toxic claim,

“I am sovereign,” alive forever inside freedom's flame.

What seems to be unwanted, I’ll find a way to re-own,

All are part of life’s games that I’m playing from my throne.

Not as victim of others or the world,

But the one who finds gems among the pearls.

No boundary holds the ground on which I take my stand,

I play the games of life with my full and open hands.

Boundless is the space from which I play my juicy games,

The world, the risks, and others all there for me to claim.

To think for myself is the most sacred call of all,

To tend my own life must be a never-broken law.

Not earned by deed and never given by another,

Never to be hijacked by anyone else’s druthers.

“We are sovereign,” though most have yet to know,

Others still lost inside verdicts given long ago.

I hold it for all the others who do not hold it yet,

The truth about them also, I am the one who won't forget.

“I am sovereign, I am sovereign,”

Not a title, not a prize hard won.

Before those distant voices had staked their toxic claim,

“I am sovereign,” alive forever inside freedom's flame.

I got it!
