What Is Fair?

We talk of fair, but do we see,
How vague its shape can truly be?
Some call it equal, side by side,
No special weight, no tilt, no pride.

Yet others say the need is key,
The ones with less should first receive.
To balance out what life denies,
To lift them up, to hear their cries.

Some trust in rules, some trust in trade,
Some weigh it by what’s been paid.
A promise made, a past regret,
Or effort given—don’t forget.

A voice not harmed, a body whole,
Respecting choice, control, and soul.
A law upheld, a custom kept,
A sacred space that none have stepped.

So many ways we choose to see,
What’s fair for thee may not for me.
Yet all this clash, this hurt, this fight,
Comes not from wrong, but lack of sight.

For had we paused to ask and find,
What “fair” had meant in each one’s mind,
We’d see our battle wasn’t real—
Just tangled words we failed to feel.

I got it!
