It's Never About You

You think their silence is about you,

A judgment that you must see through.

But what they do is their design,

Their story isn't truly thine.

The friend who vanished from your view

Did not become somebody new.

And you are not now less, or worse,

By their confusing, silent curse.

They act on thoughts you cannot see,

A false idea of you or me.

The pain is from a rule you made,

A fragile hope that's been betrayed.

An insult only finds its mark

Upon a pre-existing spark.

A hidden belief you hold as true,

That something’s wrong inside of you.

To take the blame gives you control,

A fantasy to make you whole.

This guilt becomes a shield you raise

To soften other people’s gaze.

So let the fault and story fall,

There was no real choice there at all.

Another’s deed is not your test,

Put the mistaken self to rest.
