Listening

Listen close, hear what's true,
Not just words, but meaning too.
With patience, care, and open mind,
Deeper bonds are what you'll find.

We often think we listen well,
But can the ones we love all tell?
A nod, a glance, a thoughtful "hmm,"
Can make them feel they matter some.

If someone rates you less than great,
Don’t defend—just contemplate.
Ask them what you could improve,
And thank them for their honest view.

To listen well, stay in the now,

Don’t just plan your words somehow.

Let your mind be still and free,

And hear their thoughts with honesty.

Acknowledge words with simple cues,
"Go on, I see, I get your view."
Reflect their thoughts in what you say,
And let their feelings find their way.

Silence speaks when words do not,
A well-placed pause can mean a lot.
Let them fill the space between,
And share the truth they’ve yet to glean.

It’s not obeying, not agreeing,
But simply seeing, truly seeing.
To make them feel you hear their voice,
That’s what makes the heart rejoice.

Listen close, hear what's true,
Not just words, but meaning too.
With patience, care, and open mind,
Deeper bonds are what you'll find.
