Pinocchio: A Trusted Family Member

Inside your mind, Pinocchio’s there,
His voice believing all he shares.
Not always false, not always true,
So innocently he’ll get you screwed.

When pain arrives and weighs you down,
His likely lie hides in his gown.
If suffering’s there inside your day,
That likely lie has you betrayed.

“At forty-five, I should be there!
Rewarded fully for my care.”
He told you strong joy’s up ahead,
So you worked hard, you were misled.

At times he paints a future bright,
“Celebrate now, your win’s in sight!”
You taste the prize before it’s real,
Believe those lies, it’s no good deal.

Or dressed in doubt, he lies to you,
Denies the chance that might ensue.
He guarantees a low plateau,
No risk of blow if things go low.

He leans toward tales that soothe or shield,
Though later pain is what they yield.
A moment’s ease, a longer cost,
In paths not taken, chances lost.

So pause and watch his inner voice,
Both truth and lies are in that noise.
With gentle doubt, don’t just agree.
But check some more to truly see.

No need for blame, he’s just a boy,
Both truth and lies, blind to decoys.
Just ask with care, both kind and slow:
“What part is real? What do I know?”

I got it!
