So what?

Only unhappy philosophers try to figure out the meaning of life

I've discovered that the only time I start feeling like "so what?" or trying to figure out the meaning of my life is when I am not happy. If you would ask me the meaning of life when I am happy, the question seems like a nonsense question as in, "How many pounds does the color blue weigh?" My only answer might be, "Who cares?!"

The meaning-of-life question or the what-is-all-for question are danger signals, not valid questions

They are red flags to alert you to the fact that your Now is not happy and, very often, hasn't been happy for a while.

If you're not enjoying the journey, so what?

If you’re about to die and your life is over, but you haven’t lived a life that you’d wish on your best friend, so what?

If you’ve stayed married to the same person for 30 years (or 15 or five or one), but you haven’t loved and been loved with feelings of passion or tenderness or excitement or specialness, so what?

If you’ve made $10,000,000, but you haven’t enjoyed and relished the process of doing so, so what?

If you’ve earned your degree and you’ve passed all the tests, but you didn’t enjoy the process of learning, so what?

If you’ve raised three kids, but you haven’t felt blessed by their presence in your life, so what?

If you’ve worked hard and completed the job, but you haven’t enjoyed the process, so what?

If the last hour did not bring you adventure, peace, love, passion, curiosity, excitement, or pleasure, so what?

Beware of tolerating now for the benefit of the future, as dictated by the Old Ethics of Sacrifice

Don't be tempted by that reward you think you'll at the end of the tunnel! Let it be only the icing on the cake. Create the “journey through each tunnel” as the cake itself. Unprioritize accomplishment, putting the love of the journey first, moment-my-moment and minute-by-minute.

The five C's

Choose the courage of context, creativity, and curiosity to create each and every moment of your life as a work of art, a work of art so magnificent that you’d wish it on your best friend.
