Unilateral Freedom

Unilateral Freedom

Ethics that lean on the hope of return
Leave us exposed, with too much to burn.
If I give and they just take and flee,
I’ve got an ethics that’s fooling me.

A rule that demands I carry the weight
While others ignore it—it’s not so great.
Virtue’s not pain we’re trained to endure,
But care for the self—strong, grounded, pure.

I don’t need you to share what I feel,
To set my lines and stick to my deal.
Integrity means I hold my space,
With calm resolve and an easy grace.

Say “no” with strength, not guilt or shame,
My needs are first—no game, no blame.
Ethics that serve when I'm alone,
Are the truest ground I’ve ever known.

If you ask more than I can give,
I’ll weigh the cost—choose how to live.
Not tit for tat, not guilt or fear,
But truth in voice and motives clear.

And when you match that ethic, too,
The gain is richer for me and you.
But if you don’t, I’ll still be fine—
My boundary drawn, my choice, my line.

Say “no” with strength, not guilt or shame,
My needs are first—no game, no blame.
Ethics that serve when I'm alone,
Are the truest ground I’ve ever known.
