We move through the world with a mask on our face,
Craving connection, but fearing disgrace.
We've handed our mirrors to strangers and friends—
Our self-worth depends on the lens that we lend.

We dodge every glance, we hold back the “hi,”
Afraid their rejection will echo our lie.
But deep in our hearts, we all want the same—
Someone who sees us and knows also our name.

Let’s be friends, please don’t run away—
Let’s not our fears get in our way.
For as we speak and our silence ends,
If we’re still scared, we can still be friends.

We long to be brave, to reach out a hand,
But tremble beneath what we don’t understand.
We think “I don’t care” means we’re finally free,
But that’s still a cage—it’s just pride’s decree.

The truth is we all fear the same kind of break—
That one quiet look that says we’re a fake.
But when someone dares, with a smile that’s true,
It can feel like the sun has broken right through.

Let’s be friends, please don’t run away—
Let’s not our fears get in our way.
For as we speak and our silence ends,
If we’re still scared, we can still be friends.

So here is my card, and here is my name,
I’m older, perhaps—but I’m in the same game.
The game where we hope, through all our defense,
To meet another soul who’ll ignore that fence.

Just one little “hi” can rewrite the end—
If we’re still scared, we can still be friends.
