Words That Use Us

Words That Use Us

Our language holds a hidden fight,

With words that steer us from the light.

These saboteurs hide in the script,

In every phrase that slips from lips.

If you take care of number one,

The list of insults has begun.

You're selfish, greedy, and you're cold,

A story that is getting old.

Be arrogant, a complainer,

A self-absorbed financial gainer.

A thousand insults pave your way,

If from the crowd you dare to stray.

These biased words, a prison strong,

Define what's right and what is wrong.

They praise the Others and the Next

Oneself and Now, they are perplexed.

To focus on the future’s gain,

Brings praise and washes out the stain.

Be driven, thrifty, and astute,

Don't let the present bear its fruit.

The praise you get has got you chained,

To make you loyal through the pain.

Be patient, selfless, and composed,

All other options surely closed.

These biased words, a prison strong,

Define what's right and what is wrong.

They praise the Others and the Next,

Oneself and Now, they are perplexed.

From East to West, in every tongue,

This loaded moral song is sung.

They build the cage and forge the key,

They keep us down there on our knees.

Now listen close and you will hear,

Those subtle poisons, now so clear.

By choosing words, you’ll break that spell,

Finding freedom outside of hell.
